Your work machine is connected to the general internet, which means at some point in the chain it has a public IP address.
Since they're not on the same network, you need to create a route between the two machines (something your work network administrator will probably have to do).
Without knowing your network topology, the first thing to do would be to make sure there's no firewall rule in place: To solve the larger problem of not having SSH access. Is there a reason why sudo reboot inside of a terminal program on AnyDesk/Team Viewer doesn't work? I need to restart that PC, I think the remote desktop is on some local IP assigned to it, how can I connect to it from different location using OpenSSH? #Remote desktop for ubuntu 16.04 Pc
I have done $ sudo service ssh status on the remote PC and it says : But I can do ssh localhost on the remote desktop and it works fine.īoth the PC's are on differnt network ( obviously), therefore i can't even do $ ping that-ipv4-address from my local machine. I tried to get the IP of the remote desktop using ip a and found an IPv4 address at eth0, and when I try to log in to that from my local machine using $ ssh it does nothing, after sometime says $ ssh: Connection timed out. And opessh-client on my local machine (Pop!_os). I installed openssh-server on that machine using AnyDesk. I have a work desktop, which for some reason, I need to restart but can't possibly do remotely, I can connect the work desktop(Ubuntu 16.04) through AnyDesk and TeamViewer but they do not provide me access to restart the PC remotely.
